Public Inquiry
Abuse of detainees by detention centre officers is rife. We can help detainees who have been abused as this may amount to a violation of human rights and/or a criminal offence.
In a 2015 documentary Channel 4 exposed racist abuse of detainees at Yarl’s Wood IRC, the women-only detention centre in Bedfordshire. Undercover footage revealed officers calling detainees “animals”, “beasties” and “b**ches”.
In September 2017 a BBC Panorama documentary exposed physical and verbal abuse of detainees at Brook House IRC, run by the notorious multinational corporation G4S. BBC Panorama filmed officers choking a young Egyptian man, named ‘Abbas’ on the documentary.
‘Abbas’ is our client, and we are calling for an independent inquiry into this abuse.
We also know that many of those removed or deported are subjected to abuse by the escorts in charge of removing them. This issue was brought to national attention in the case of Jimmy Mubenga, who died of a heart attack as he was aggressively handled by G4S guards on the plane. We can help you if you think you have been ill-treated when you were removed or deported.
If you feel that you have been abused by detention guards, immigration officials, or those working for contractors to the Home Office such as G4S, Serco and Mitie, then please get in touch.
