Oluwatobi Akinwande

I am a Family and Childcare Solicitor and Supervising Supervisor working within the Family and Child Care department. I am currently based in the Birmingham office.

I am an accredited member of the Law Society Family Law Advanced Scheme and I have significant experience in both private and public family law matters. I deal with cases that are both privately and publicly funded by way of legal aid.

I assist with and have experience in handling domestic abuse cases. Particularly, I have a successful track record of securing:

• Emergency injunctions;
• Child Arrangement Orders;
• Prohibited Steps Orders;
• Specific Issue Orders; and
• Forced Marriage Protection Orders
• Female Genital Mutilation Orders

I conduct my own advocacy and have represented clients before HHJs, Circuit Judges, Recorders, District Judges, Deputy District Judges, Magistrates and Legal Advisers.

In respect of public family law matters, I primarily handle care proceedings. I have a wealth of experience dealing with Public Law Outline (PLO) Review meetings, Emergency Protection Orders, Special Guardianship Orders Orders and Supervision Orders.

I have worked on serious cases including sexual abuse, non-accidental injuries, forced marriage and honour based violence where we have represented both parents (separately) and children.

I attend pro bono surgeries to assist prospective clients and I have delivered training to professionals who support victims of domestic violence, and parents dealing with children related matters. I am passionate and always strive to attain the best results for my clients.

I am a mentor on the University of Law Mentor Scheme program. Here, I assist students and prospective lawyers by providing guidance and support to them. I also maintain a legal page online dedicated to providing guidance to students pursuing a career in law and providing insight into my life as a family lawyer. I am also a Mentor on the Tyro Lawyer Plus Programme.

I am a member of the Women in Family Law and I am also part of the committee for Birmingham Solicitor’s Group.

I am fluent in Yoruba.
