We are delighted to announce that Emine Mehmet, Duncan Lewis' highly regarded Family and Childcare Director, was Highly Commended in the ‘Best Contribution by an Individual’ category at the Pro Bono Awards.
In commending Emine, Lawworks' judges acknowledged her passion for empowering the next generation of legal minds through her transformative collaboration with the UEL, where she mentors students, sharing invaluable insights cultivated from her extensive experience. This mentorship journey culminated in the establishment of a pro bono clinic.
Under Emine’s expert guidance, law students at UEL receive hands-on experience, honing their skills and preparing for the legal arena. This initiative not only instils industry readiness but also plants the seeds of their future legal careers. This pro bono clinic work led to Emine being recognised with an Honorary Law Fellowship, awarded by the UEL’s prestigious Royal Docks School of Business and Law.

Emine is ranked and recommended in both the prestigious Chambers and Legal 500 legal guides, has carved an indomitable path towards accessible justice and legal excellence. She also supervises a large team comprising of child panel members, solicitors, trainees and caseworkers at the Duncan Lewis' Dalston branch in East London and the Barnet branch in North London.
To name just a few, Emine has been involved in organising monthly surgeries at Hestia, Solace and Latin American Women's Aid (LAWA). She also provides pro bono advice over the phone via Redbridge MARAC.
In recognition of her unwavering dedication to assisting the most vulnerable in society, Emine has received several awards for her pro bono activities. Most notably, Emine has supported the Royal Holloway Legal Advice Centre since its opening in January 2020, which saw Duncan Lewis receive the Pro Bono award for their “outstanding commitment in support of [the] Legal Advice Centre”.
Emine is a Law Society accredited children law panel member since 2011, is highly regarded for her specialist work in London Family law. She handles a diverse caseload encompassing privately and publicly funded (legal aid) family and childcare matters.
