A Forced Marriage is when a person is denied their right to choose who they can marry. The person can face physical and emotional pressure to marry. They are threatened with harm, and in some cases are beaten if they do not comply. They are placed under enormous emotional pressure, being told that they are bringing shame on to the family if they do not comply.

It is a criminal offence in England and Wales to force another person into marriage whether they are children or adults.
