If you are the victim of domestic abuse you may feel helpless, frightened and alone. If there are children in the home, those feelings often intensify in the knowledge that the children are also suffering harm, even just by hearing the abuse.
Studies have shown that a high percentage of children living in a home with domestic abuse are directly harmed by the perpetrator. This is in addition to the emotional harm which will be caused to children by them witnessing or hearing abuse, or even being aware of it. Such children will often become fearful and anxious and feel unsafe. They can experience feelings of guilt and become withdrawn. There may also be long term affects and potential emotional problems in adulthood.
At Duncan Lewis solicitors we can obtain an injunction called a non molestation Order and this can also protect children. It can also include an Order that the perpetrator leaves the home. We can obtain Orders regulating contact with a child, stating with whom a child will live or prevent a child from being removed from your care.
It may be that social services are involved with your family as a result of the abuse, and Duncan Lewis solicitors can advise and support through this difficult process whether during child protection processes, investigations or during court proceedings.
In many cases legal aid will be available and with over 50 branches nationwide, Duncan Lewis solicitors are here to help. We have a confidential domestic abuse helpline so please do get in touch on 0800 689 3275
