A 25-year-old man whose partner is expecting a baby has been killed in an industrial accident at a firm near Chorley in Lancashire.
Richard Calsen was thought to be working at a firm of welders and blacksmiths at Garden Street in Abbey Village, when emergency services were called to the scene at 3.20pm on Saturday (17/05/14).
The Air Ambulance, ambulance service and police attended, but Mr Calsen was pronounced dead at the scene. It is reported Mr Calsen suffered life-threatening injuries and died after a cardiac arrest.
Lancashire Police said in a statement:
“Police were called by the ambulance service to reports that a man had suffered injuries while working at an industrial unit at Abbey Village, near Chorley.
“Police and paramedics attended, but sadly a 25-year-old local man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A joint police and Health and Safety Executive investigation is underway to establish the circumstances and is in its early stages.”
A spokesman for Mr Calsen’s family paid tribute to him and told local publisher The Lancashire Evening Post:
“We are devastated at the loss of Richard, who was sadly taken from us at the prime of his life.
“He lived his life to the full.
“We have lost a loving and caring son, brother, uncle, great friend and father- to-be, who was looking forward to a bright future.”
