A police officer has been handed an 18-year jail term for sex abuse. The judge described the police officer’s crimes as amongst the “most despicable” had had ever heard. The 43-year-old police officer was fired from Thames Valley Police following being disciplined for threatening those who had complained about him. He also called a 14-year-old girl witness in an investigation he had taken charge of and asked her out on a date.

Judge Francis Sheriden heard how police officer Mohammed Younas had raped a seven-year-old girl and continued sexually abusing her over an eight-year period. Regardless of his dismissal, the judge heard that the frequency of Mr. Younas’ sexual abuse of the young girl increased. Mr. Younas attacked the girl and forced another child to engage in sexual activity. Mr. Younas denied 15 counts of sexual assault and rape at Aylesbury Crown Court yet was found to be guilty by the jury.
The court heard how Mr. Younas, originally from Pakistan, suffered from a nervous breakdown and this had affected his work as a police officer. It was during his nervous breakdown that the sexual abuse of the girl began and continued until the girl’s 15th birthday.

In addition to receiving an 18-year prison term, Mr. Younas received a Sexual Offences Prevention Order, effectively banning him from making unsupervised communication or contact with children under the age of 16 years. Mr. Younas was indefinitely listed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and was handed a restraining order to prevent him from contacting his victims.
