A Nottingham man responsible for posting sexual images of his ex-girlfriend online has received a four-month jail sentence. Twenty-three-year-old Shane Webber stalked 22-year-old Ruth Jeffery via social networking sites. Mr. Webber, of Clifton, sent information about Miss Jeffery to her relatives and strangers. Mr. Webber admitted his guilt to one count of harassment at a Southampton Magistrates’ Court hearing. Miss Jeffery claimed to have been devastated by the actions of Mr. Webber.
Miss Jeffery is described to have been “extremely pleased” at the outcome of the case. Miss Jeffery told of how she was “absolutely devastated” when she discovered that Mr. Webber had sent photographs and details about her to relatives and strangers. Miss Jeffery claimed that Mr. Webber had “intentionally controlled, belittled and harmed” her and described his behaviour as “cruel and calculated”. The court was informed that Mr. Webber had sent messages through an email address bearing his friend names. This had led to the arrest of his friend. Mr. Webber’s actions were only discovered when Miss Jeffery's family conducted their own inquiries and traced the emails back to Mr. Webber. District Judge Anthony Callaway told the court that the offence grossly violated Miss Jeffery’s privacy. Mr. Webber was also handed a five-year restraining order.
