Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Man Jailed For Grand Canyon Trek with Grandchildren

A US man has been jailed for forcing his three young grandsons to trek 18 miles in blistering heat in the absence of food and water. The grandchildren, aged eight, nine, and 12 claimed that they had been victim to hitting, pushing, choking, pinching, and squeezing during treks of the Grand Canyon.
On one hike, temperatures reached 42 degrees Celsius (108 degrees Fahrenheit) and it was during this trek that a ranger witnessed the group and saw the man shoving the eldest boy and using a rolled-up T-shirt to whip him, authorities claim.

The accused told the authorities that the trek was used as a means to get the boys into shape. Authorities claim that the accused tortured and beat the boys, and told them to fabricate tales about the way in which they had acquired injuries. The boys claim that their grandfather also forced them to vomit by sticking their fingers down their throats. One boy exhibited symptoms of heat stroke; the other two showed to be suffering from dehydration and heat exhaustion. The court heard that boys regularly went on holiday with their grandfather, including to Central America and Jamaica. The accused was jailed for six counts of child abuse.
