Experts have warned couples going through divorce proceedings that they should seek expert help if they are in a state of fear or are uncertain about aspects of day-to-day life following divorce proceedings.

The recommendation comes after new statistics published by a UK-wide legal partnership show that 90 per cent of couples risk falling into what is now known as a Divoid, as they do not have any plans for the future beyond the divorce itself.

This Divoid, which is made up of four areas including worrying about the effect on finances, future relationships, children and living arrangements, often leaves many individuals bereft and unable to move on in life.

The statistics reveal that over two-third of parents are worried about the psychological and emotional impact of divorce proceedings on children, while 75 per cent dread the pending financial dilemmas surrounding mortgages and arrangements. A further 30 per cent fear loneliness, while a greater proportion of women are concerned about establishing childcare plans and learning tasks such as DIY.

A spokesperson for a large law firm said: “There are a lot of things which concern people because divorce is a major change to life. But no one needs to be trapped in the Divoid. If you seek help and advice, you can make certain that as you embark on a new chapter in your life, it gets off to a positive start.”
