A couple are taking legal action after developing severe symptoms of sickness and diarrhoea while on holiday at the Jaz Mirabel Hotel in Sharm-el-Sheikh, Egypt.
Local publisher the Bury Times reports that Alan and Lynda Blackledge from Bury stayed at the hotel in June.
Mr Blackledge, 55, developed symptoms which included diarrhoea and severe abdominal pain – and is still suffering from the symptoms after returning home.
Mr Blackledge says he was unable to leave his hotel room for long periods during the holiday and has had to visit his GP for medical treatment.
Mrs Blackledge, 53, alleges the hotel was not up to the standard they expected – and that they regularly saw flies on the food in the hotel restaurant.
She also alleges that food was occasionally left uncovered for long periods of time – and was often served at “incorrect temperatures”.
The couple say that other holidaymakers staying at the Jaz Mirabel in June also reported similar symptoms, including young children staying there.
Mr Blackledge – who works as a market supervisor – said:
“I’m still suffering with these symptoms and have had to visit my GP for treatment.
“I am usually the one with the cast iron stomach – but this time the illness got to me severely. I am constantly tired now, which is not like me.
“I am a very active person – and as a market supervisor, I have to be, as I am on my feet all day.
“It is the very last thing we expected when we booked the holiday – and I want answers about why we were so badly let down.”
The couple booked the holiday with tour operator Global Travel Group Ltd, trading as Holiday Gems. No comment was available from the travel company, but the couple have taken legal advice and their lawyers are working with Global Travel Group Ltd to investigate the couple’s allegations about standard at the Jaz Mirabel and the holiday illness symptoms they suffered.
