A pair who murdered a debt collector has received jail terms following a four-week court hearing. Scott Davidson, who now resides in Frodsham, received a life term and has been ordered to a minimum of 30 years in jail for the murder of debt collector, Martin Ithell. His co-accused, Rachael Horton, of Ellesmere Port, received an eight-year jail term, following admitting her role in the murder of Mr. Ithell in March 2011. The former lovers displayed a lack of emotion when receiving their sentences from The Recorder of Liverpool Judge Clement Goldstone at Liverpool Crown Court.
Police discovered Mr. Ithell’s body in his own vehicle outside of Blacon Police Station in Chester on March the 12th. Detective Inspector Helen Spooner, of Cheshire Police, told the court how Mr. Davidson had claimed to have shot Mr. Ithell in self-defence. However, Detective Inspector Spooner claimed that Mr. Davidson’s actions leading up to Mr. Ithell’s murder was planned and that Mr. Davidson had no plans to allow Mr. Ithell to leave the house alive.
Detective Inspector Spooner told of how Ms. Horton had failed to provide the police with a transparent explanation of the extent to which she was involved in the murder but did plead guilty to manslaughter.
Judge Goldstone informed the court that Mr. Davidson’s greed and immaturity had led to him borrowing considerable sums of money. Mr. Davidson will be considered for parole following serving a minimum of 30 years in prison and following his release, will forever remain on parole.
