I am a caseworker in the Public Law team at Duncan Lewis Solicitors, based in the City of London office. I work under the direction supervision of Solicitor Jamie Bell and Director Toufique Hossain. I am accredited as a Senior Caseworker under the Law Society's Immigration and Asylum Accreditation Scheme.
I work with vulnerable clients, including victims of torture, sexual abuse and trafficking and unaccompanied minors. I have a particular specialism working with vulnerable women who have otherwise been unable to secure legal representation. I also specialise in detained matters and frequently assist clients with claims for unlawful detention, challenges to removal as well as assisting with systemic challenges relating to flaws within immigration detention. In particular, I have built a practise working with detained individuals who may lack capacity or have a learning disability.
I have over 6 years’ experience in the legal sector, and I take instructions on a wide range of immigration and asylum matters under legal aid, including first time and fresh asylum claims and appeals, family reunion, unlawful detention and assisting victims of trafficking through the NRM process.
I was part of the team that secured a concession from the Home Office that Detention Services Order 04/2020: Mental Vulnerability and Immigration Detention (“the DSO”) is not operating ‘effectively or as intended in certain cases, in particular, in cases where concerns are raised about a detained individual’s ability to make immigration related decisions’
I am also part of the ongoing challenge to the refusal to grant leave to remain to a cohort of Nepalese nationals who were evacuated to the UK from Afghanistan under Operation Pitting.
I am willing to take on urgent cases, including weekends and evenings, to ensure that my clients achieve a positive outcome in their cases.
