Profile / Experience

I am a Caseworker working under the supervision of Lewis Kett within Director Toufique Hossain's public law team. I work mostly on judicial review claims that involve a significant human rights element.

Prior to joining Duncan Lewis in January 2023, I spent nearly a year volunteering and working for small NGOs providing humanitarian assistance in the Balkans, including 6 months coordinating an aid distribution project in Sarajevo, Bosnia.

The Home Secretary agreed to pay damages of £105,000 and accepted liability for the unlawfulness of the entire period of the Claimant’s detention (250 days), as well as a breach of Article 3 ECHR through failure to ensure consistent access to anti-psychotic medication for his mental illness (Schizophrenia), and a breach of the Public Sector Equality Duty through a failure to have due regard to the need for an evacuation plan adjusted for disabled detainees. I wrote an article about this case which was published here.

The Home Secretary was found to have breached the Public Sector Equality Duty in respect of both Claimants for his failure to consider the need for an evacuation plan with reasonable adjustments for disabled detainees, and Article 3 ECHR rights of AJ for failing to ensure he was provided with essential HIV medication.
