Deprivation of Liberty Orders are required when a statutory authority needs to step in to keep a person safe. Within children's proceedings, these are often done in parallel to applications for Care Orders where a child is deemed as beyond parental control or is engaging in high risk behaviours, such as gang affiliation. A Deprivation of Liberty Order enables the Local Authority to detain the child or restrict their travel to ensure their safety. I have dealt with many applications such as these in my everyday practice.
