We are delighted to say that Pardeep Somel has stepped up to the role of director within our Milton Keynes Immigration Department.
Pardeep joined Duncan Lewis Solicitors in September 2018, having been admitted in 2009. She has more than 15 years’ experience across the full spectrum of asylum and immigration law, representing victims of torture, human trafficking and gender-based persecution.
Pardeep has dedicated her career to representing the vulnerable and protecting human rights and has extensive experience of litigation in all courts, from the First-tier Tribunal through to the Administrative Court and the Court of Appeal, often working with vulnerable individuals including minors, victims of domestic violence, torture and trafficking in complex cases.
She said: “I take great pride in representing the most vulnerable in society often with complex psychological conditions by ensuring that all aspects of their cases are addressed. A well prepared application is crucial to the outcome. I’m delighted to become a Director and look forward to continuing to fight for my client’s most basis human rights”.
Often litigating in a wide range of immigration, asylum and detention related judicial review matters, Pardeep regularly represents detainees held in prison or immigration detention centres, as well as those that have been released from immigration detention, by challenging both the Secretary of State’s powers to detain, and the removal decision.
Other challenges include, failure to provide a release address (NASS) or suitable accommodation within a reasonable time, resulting in prolonged immigration detention, failure to apply the detention rules correctly and unlawful decisions to detain those accepted as victims of torture or trafficking or unsuitable for detention, county court claims for false imprisonment, unlawful delays in processing and fresh asylum claim challenges and the denial of a right of appeal following a refusal of a fresh claim.
She continues to be accredited as a supervisor and Level 2 Senior Caseworker under the Law Society’s Immigration & Asylum Accreditation Scheme.
