Public law director Toufique Hossain spoke to Inside Time in light of the Home Office releasing 350 immigration detainees from immigration detention centres following the legal challenge led by the Duncan Lewis public law team on behalf of charity Detention Action. As a result of this, one-third of detainees have been released in response to the coronavirus pandemic, bringing the total population within in detention centres down from 1,100 to 750. Toufique comments that; “this litigation has brought about the release of hundreds of detainees, preventing many from suffering serious harm.”
