Police in Doncaster have arrested a 73-year-old man, after the body of his 95-year-old mother was found at an address in Doncaster.

The body of a woman believed to be his mother Cecilia Powell was found at her home at Doncaster Lane, Penkhull, Stoke-on-Trent.

David Powell of Longton Road in Barlaston was arrested after police officers from Staffordshire Police were called to Mrs Powell’s home in Doncaster Lane at 8pm on Thursday.

Powell appeared in court at Newcastle-under-Lyme on Saturday (11/04/15) and was charged with the murder.

A post-mortem on the body found was also due to take place on Saturday.
Police forensic teams completed their search of the property where the body was found on Friday.

Detective Inspector Andy Maxfield from Staffordshire Police said:

“At this stage of the investigation, we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

The family of Mrs Powell is currently receiving support from family liaison officers at Staffordshire Police.
