Vauxhall have urged urban explorers to refrain from endangering their lives by trespassing on their treatment plant in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. The famous car manufacturer has taken steps to register with an online forum targeted at urban explorers to post a message about the dangers of trespassing after photographs of the site were posted online.

Large pipes at the treatment plant transport storm water from the treatment site to Manchester Ship Canal. This is treated before being discharged to the Municipal Treatment Plant for further treatment before final discharge.

An urban explorer forum member, who appears to be a spokesperson for Vauxhall, posted the following message on the online site: “Whilst Vauxhall welcomes inquiries from concerned citizens regarding our operations, we do not encourage anyone to put themselves in danger by entering hazardous confined sewer spaces and deep ravines. As these are structures designed to handle storm water, they are subject to flash flooding.”

One urban explorer has responded to the message, blaming the site’s lack of security for the ease of trespassing on the site. The respondent claims that while there is a sign warning individuals of the risk of drowning, no effort has been put in place to prevent people from accessing the site in the first place.
