A teenage boy from South Lanarkshire has denied murdering foster carer, Dawn McKenzie, at a flat in Hamilton. The teenager is alleged to have stabbed the 34-year-old woman with a knife in June. The boy’s lawyer entered a plea of not guilty on his behalf at the High Court in Glasgow. She told the court that she was satisfied the boy was “sane and fit to plead”. Judge Lord Brailsford set a date for a fixed trial in January.
The boy allegedly attacked Miss McKenzie with a knife at a property in Deveron Crescent in Hamilton on June the 24th. Defence Counsel, Louise Arrol, informed the court that she was appearing for the accused. Psychiatric and psychological reports were produced on the boy’s behalf and it was concluded that the boy was sane and fit to plead. Miss Arrol informed the court that Donald Findlay QC would take the role of senior counsel on behalf of the defence.
