Preston residents have launched a protest against plans to construct 450 homes in the region. Residents have voiced their opposition to the proposed Haydock Grange development in Cottam. However, officers have advised Preston council’s planning committee to support the plans, despite having received a considerable number of objections to the development. Objections have derived from Ben Wallace, a Preston North MP, as well as Cottam and Woodplumpton parish councils. In total, the scheme, which is set to cost £42 million, has received nearly 250 objections.
Barry Hill, a Preston resident who has organised the protest, claimed that the housing development would change the area for the worse and that the country lanes would be unable to cope with the increase in traffic resulting from the development. He has told of how residents felt “really angry” over the plans.
A spokesperson for Taylor Wimpey claimed that the scheme would enable the area to benefit from a £2.85 million investment, including improvements to the highways. He added that the proposals had evolved through engagement with Preston residents and that while he appreciated that some residents had concerns regarding the development plans, Taylor Wimpey felt confident that the Haydock Grange development scheme represented the greatest option to deliver new homes to the area.
