A pop star has appeared before Chester Magistrates Court after being caught driving his Lexus at 105mph. Ian Brown, of Lymm in Cheshire, narrowly escaped a driving ban following speeding on the M6 motorway. The star recently made headlines following the announcement that his band, The Stone Roses, will be performing comeback gigs next June. Mr. Brown was handed six penalty points and a £650 fine after pleading guilty to speeding in April of this year. Mr. Brown was also ordered to pay court costs of £300 and a £15 victim surcharge.
Defence solicitor, Nick Freeman, had asked magistrates to avoid banning Mr. Brown from driving. Mr. Freeman told that court that the singer had been offered a £60 on-the-spot fine and six points on his licence immediately following being caught speeding. However, Mr. Brown had declined the offer following a dispute on the speed at which he was travelling. Mr. Brown was caught speeding following returning home from taking his 11-year old son to his home in London. Mr. Freeman told the court that a driving ban for Mr. Brown would severely affect the contact he had with his 11-year-old son from his former marriage and his 15 and 19-year-old sons, in addition to influencing the resurrection of The Stone Roses.
