A prolific shoplifter from Derbyshire has been given an Anti-Social Behaviour Order (ABSO) and ordered to stay away from retail premises after being convicted of four separate thefts during a two-month period last year.
Thirty-two--year-old Luke John Meads was given the ASBO at Debryshire Magistrates Court last month following the crimes that were committed between August and September 2013. Mead has now been banned from the retail premises he had previously been excluded from in the local Ilkeston area.
Cllr Carol Hart said: “We hope the shop staff and residents who witnessed the thefts and anti-social behaviour in this case are now reassured that positive action has been taken and that Meads faces a fine or prison if he breaches any of the conditions.”
Authorities have also warned Mead that he faces further court proceedings and possible jail time if he breaches any of the ASBO conditions during the next 12 months. The Erewash Community Safety Partnership has distributed posters and leaflets to local businesses to inform them of Mead's ASBO and to encourage them to come forward if he is seen breaching the terms.
Erewash Community Safety Partnership ASBO Co-ordinator, Sally Wiggington added: “We hope it will act as a deterrent to others involved in anti-social behaviour, it should send out a strong message that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated.”
