A Paisley woman accused of the murder of her 23-month-old son has gone on trial at the High Court in Glasgow. Kimberley Hainey has pleaded not guilty to murdering the boy. She is also charged with the assault and neglect of her son between September 2008 and March 2010. Miss Hainey allegedly left her son unattended for excessive periods, failed to change his soiled nappies, caused him to ingest drugs, and failed to provide adequate medical assistance and care. The court was told that a post-mortem examination of the boy’s body registered the cause of death to be “unascertained”. The jury was informed that the boy’s body was discovered in his cot at his home in Paisley on March the 30th 2010.

Miss Hainey also faces charges of failing to inform the authorities of her son’s death, concealing her son’s body, and obstructing entry into the property. Miss Hainey allegedly pretended, on numerous occasions, that her dead son was being cared for by a relative, friend, or nursery workers. Miss Hainey denies the charges against her.
