A North Wales letting agency has unexpectedly shut down, potentially leaving hundreds of tenants and landlords out of pocket. Tenants and landlords who worked with Shotton-based Eazy Let Limited claim that the letting agency has failed to contact them for weeks. Companies House has proposed to strike Eazy Let Limited off its books; the letting agency had failed to file the required documentation and tax returns. If Eazy Let Limited fails to file documentation by January the 4th 2012, the company will be officially closed down.
One local landlord, who wishes to remain anonymous, claimed that the letting agency owed her £1,000 in rent and told of how her tenants could lose their £800 deposit. She claimed that she had failed to make contact with the letting agency, despite standing outside their office for two hours. She had made contact with other landlords who were also owed rent and tenants who had been looking to claim their deposits. The unnamed landlord stated that letting agencies such as Eazy Let Limited were required to use deposit protection schemes backed by the Government to ensure that tenants’ deposits were secure. Letting agencies are also required to provide tenants with receipts for their deposits. However, the anonymous landlord claimed that Eazy Let Limited failed to provide tenants with receipts. This means that they are unlikely to receive their deposits. A spokesperson for Flintshire County Council stated that they had been in receipt of a number of enquiries from landlords and tenants and were actively attempting to contact the company.
