Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, London Paramedic Killed By a Single Punch

A London paramedic died after being punched once in the face during an unprovoked attack. Twenty-eight-year-old James Hodgkinson of Islington was attacked after watching a cricket match at Trent Bridge, Nottingham. Mr. Hodgkinson visited several drinking establishments after the match and was ready to leave one bar when he was struck by Jacob Dunne. The single punch knocked Mr. Hodgkinson over, causing him to hit his head on the concrete pavement. Mr. Hodgkinson died in hospital nine days after the incident.

Mr. Hodgkinson's father has described the attack as “totally unprovoked” and claimed that his son had had no previous interaction with his attacker. He told of how his son had been in conversation with another man when Mr. Dunne launched his attack. He claimed that his son had not been prepared to defend himself, as he had had no reason to do so. The force of Mr. Dunne’s punch left Mr. Hodgkinson unconscious. Mr Hodgkinson's mother, Joan, described her son as “very caring”. The London Ambulance Service for which Mr. Hodgkinson worked provided four outriders for his funeral cortège.
