Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Lancashire Neighbours Clash over Band Practise Noise

Neighbours residing in a quiet Lancashire cul-de-sac have put forward their objections to plans for a local band to practise in a room only a few yards from their properties. The residents of Gower Court in Leyland claim that the noise deriving from the band’s twice-weekly rehearsals will prove intrusive, particularly in the summer months when they choose to spend time in their own gardens.

Among the objectors is a woman concerned that the noise levels may have an impact on her son’s GCSE exam revision. Carole Holden, whose property is less than 30 metres from the industrial unit in which the rehearsals are earmarked to take place, maintained that she while she enjoyed music, she failed to be convinced that soundproofing would be adequate to lessen the noise from the band’s activities.

Mrs. Holden stated that in an enclosed environment, the rehearsals had the potential to generate 150 decibels of noise. Mrs. Holden told of how she frequently went to bed at nine o’clock to be up for early starts due to her work role and was concerned about the time at which the noise from the band would end of an evening. The proposed band practises, believed to involve around 25 instruments, are due to commence at 8pm. and end at 9.45pm in the deserted Moss Side Industrial Estate unit. 31 individuals have signed a petition opposing the plans. Leyland Band currently lacks a permanent home and have promised residents that they will soundproof the unit.
