Imran Shahid, one of the three men convicted of murdering 15-year-old Kriss Donald in March 2004, was assaulted in Saughton jail in Edinburgh. Mr. Shahid, 34, is believed to have sustained minor injuries during the assault that was carried out by a fellow prisoner. Mr. Shahid did not require hospital treatment as a result of the attack. Mr. Shahid was recently transferred to Saughton jail from Shotts Prison in North Lanarkshire.

Mr. Shahid is currently serving a 25-year sentence following his role in the abduction and stabbing of Kriss Donald. Mr. Shahid’s brother, Zeeshan Shahid, and their acquaintance, Faisal Mushtaq, were also sentenced to life in November 2006 after being found guilty of murdering Kriss. Mr. Shahid is believed to have led the gang that snatched Kriss. It is alleged that they targeted Kriss because he was white and Mr. Shahid held the desire to avenge some earlier insult in Glasgow city centre. Mr. Shahid was ordered to serve a minimum jail term of 25 years for the murder. His brother was handed a minimum sentence of 23 years while Mr. Mushtaq received 22 years in prison.
