A 39-year-old father is thought to have murdered his six-month-old son at his mother’s house before hanging himself. Taxi driver Paul McBride was found dead at his mother’s house. His son, who was found to be in a “very poorly condition,” was admitted to hospital where he later died. The pair were found after a search was conducted in relation to concerns raised about Mr McBride’s welfare. Mr McBride’s sister found his body shortly after arriving at their mother’s residence in Preston, Lancashire. Police and paramedics arrived at the scene shortly afterwards. Mr McBride’s mother, Ms Betts, is believed to have been holidaying in France at the time of the incident.
A murder investigation has been launched but detectives are not considering the incident to be suspicious. Detective Superintendent Neil Esseen has described the case as “incredibly tragic.” Forensic examinations have been conducted at the semi-detached property.
Ms Betts’ neighbour described the incident as “shocking.” She recalls Mr McBride to be the “happy, jolly type” who was “always jokey and loved football.” The baby’s mother is currently being supported by police officers. A post-mortem examination is being performed to establish how the six-month-old died.
