A hearing in relation to the ongoing position of the Secretary of State for the Home Department is currently scheduled for 22 April 2015 before the Upper Tribunal President, Mr Justice McCloskey.
In the light of this, we consider it unusual and concerning that the Secretary of State continues to enforce removals to Afghanistan, with a charter flight currently scheduled for 21 April 2015.
Duncan Lewis currently represents a number of people who are due to be removed on this flight and will represent anyone who is being forcibly removed on this charter flight.
We continue to seek generic relief suspending removals to Afghanistan in the light of the significant deterioration of the country situation. We consider that this is especially relevant given the pertinent hearing scheduled for the day after this charter flight.
Further evidence continues to come to light demonstrating the risks for returnees, with figures released by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released on 12 April 2015 showing that each year continues to show record high levels of civilian casualties.
