Duncan Lewis, Legal News Solicitors, Burglar Entered Darlington Phone Shop through Ceiling

A burglar broke into a phone shop by entering a first floor flat and smashing a hole through the floor to gain access to the phone shop below. The 36-year-old man and his alleged accomplice broke into the flat in Darlington, County Durham, in early on the morning of May the 12th. The pair caused damage to the unoccupied flat by ripping up the carpets and making a hole in the floor. They caused £791.41 worth of damage to the ceiling of the Carphone Warehouse store. The pair removed alarm cabling yet failed to foil the alarm system. They fled from police but left enough forensic evidence to lead to their arrest three months later.

The accused told police that he had broken into the store to steal phones to sell for financial gain. The man has put forth a guilty plea. The accused is under licence until November following his release from a two-year custodial sentence for committing a burglary in July 2010. It is unclear whether the man will need to be sent back to prison or whether he is eligible for a warning for breaching his licence.
