An investigation has been launched following a tragic incident in which a three-year-old boy trapped his arm in a running washing machine. The toddler, from Crewe, Cheshire, was allegedly helping his mother to fill the washing machine with clothes. Miss Wrench, 24, had ventured into her living room when she heard her sons hysterical screams. It is believed that the boy had opened the washing machine that had failed to automatically stop. Miss Wrench discovered her son covered in blood; his left arm had been torn off just below the shoulder and was found to be inside of the washing machine. The boy was rushed to hospital but surgeons were unable to re-attach the limb. He is likely to undergo further surgery and will eventually be offered a prosthetic arm.

Miss Wrench’s washing machine is believed to be rented and its make is unknown. Trading Standards investigators have removed the machine from the property for examination. A Cheshire East Council spokesperson voiced the council’s concerns at the tragic incident and claimed to be carrying out a thorough investigation. A Cheshire Police representative said that inquiries had taken place to determine the sequence of events that resulted in the boy’s injuries. The police have since passed their investigation over to Trading Standards. Since the accident, local police, friends, and family have organised fundraising events to raise money to send the boy to Disneyland.
