Cardiff City Council has successfully prosecuted a seafood company for ten food hygiene offences under the Food Hygiene (Wales) Regulations Act 2006 and General Food Regulations 2004.
Company director of Live Dragon Seafood Trading Company Limited – of 60 Cowbridge Road East in Canton – Ms Yulan Chen entered a guilty plea at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court. The company was fined £2,000 with costs of £400 and a victim surcharge of £100.
In mitigation, Ms Chen advised the court that the business had operated for ten years, but that in the last year she had suffered from bad luck and an accident. She apologised for committing the offences.
After the hearing, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Shared Regulatory Services, Councillor Dan De’Ath, said:
“I hope that this case sends out a clear message on the consequences of ignoring the law.
“This establishment hadn’t complied with a previous food hygiene improvement notice – and had failed to keep their premises clean and to store seafood at the correct temperature.
“We ask all similar businesses to adhere to food hygiene laws or the City Council will have no other option than to take you to court.”
