Patrick was invited to ABN to discuss the state of detention centres in the most popular arrival destinations for refuges in Europe. Having spent time visiting a detention centre in Malta Patrick focused his discussion on the knowledge he garnered from this.
He describes the extremely poor living conditions suffered by asylum seekers, the weak process through which individuals claim asylum in these countries (namely Greece, Italy and Malta) and considers what measures he thinks should be taken to make the movement of refugees safer, noting that the EU border is now the deadliest in the world.
