New changes to visa fees to apply from mid-March (29 February 2016)

Date: 29/02/2016
Duncan Lewis, Immigration Solicitors, New changes to visa fees to apply from mid-March

New legislation introduced in January 2016 to set the maximum amounts the Home Office can charge for visa, immigration and nationality applications over the next four years will come into force on 18 March and 6 April for the Isle of Man.

The Home Office legislation will make changes to specific application fees.

The main changes to visa fees include visas linked most closely to economic growth – such as those offered to workers and students – which will be increased by 2%.

A 2% increase will also apply to all visit visas to help maintain the UK’s position as one of the world’s top tourist destinations, said the Home Office.

Changes also include an increase of up to 25% to apply to settlement, residence and nationality fees – the government says these routes deliver the most benefits to successful applicants.

There will also be an increase of up to 33% for optional premium services offered by the Home Office, such as the super premium service and priority visa services overseas.

Fees for all sponsorship categories will be held at the current rates.

The changes ensure that the Home Office can achieve a self-funding system – while continuing to provide a competitive level of service and a fees structure, which “remains attractive to businesses, migrants and visitors”.
