Telford & Wrekin Council says that the first tenants of a new housing development have moved in after the properties were completed two months ahead of schedule.

The Oaklands in Dawley offers 91 two- and three-bedroom homes by developer Nuplace – a commercial company limited by shares set up by Telford & Wrekin Council.

Nuplace was established to develop and manage a programme of 400 market rental properties – the project will also generate additional funding for the council.

Nuplace will privately rent out 47 two- and three-bedroom homes – and the remaining 44 two- and three-bedroom homes will be sold on the open market by Lovell.

The properties were originally intended to be available from the summer, but three houses at the site are already occupied, with the first occupiers moving in ahead of schedule on 28 April.

The council said that Oaklands is the third Nuplace site to be brought forward following two other developments which are now fully let.

Phase 2 will also include a site in Madeley, where building work on new homes has begun, as well as a further two sites at Hadley and Newport.

Director for Nuplace, Jonathan Rowe, said:

“It’s great to see the first tenants move into our latest development and we’re looking forward to welcoming more this summer.

“Nuplace is playing a valuable role in the community, as well as generating commercial revenue for the council.”

The council says the development project has the aim of supporting social and economic regeneration, as well as addressing a shortfall in providing quality homes in the rental market – and generating revenue to protect frontline council services.

Lovell has opened a show home for prospective buyers and people can express interest in the properties being built with Nuplace.
