Kettering Council in Northamptonshire has announced a consultation on its Homelessness Strategy 2016-19, which will last until Friday, 3 June 2016.
The Homelessness Act 2002 means that local authorities have a duty to carry out reviews or assessments of homelessness in their area and develop a homelessness strategy.
The Act specifically requires that strategies must address three key issues –
the prevention of homelessness, the provision of accommodation for those who do become homeless, and the provision of support to those who have been homeless to ensure that they do not become homeless again.
The strategy must also deal with all homelessness in the local authority’s district and not just where there is a statutory homelessness duty.
The council’s Draft Homelessness Strategy for 2016-19 describes how the council intends to meet the needs of our residents who are homeless or threatened with homelessness. It identifies the challenges the council faces and focuses on ensuring the delivery of homelessness services in the next three years, in the context of challenging welfare and tenancy reforms and funding cuts.
Kettering Council has proposed three strategic aims for its Homelessness Strategy 2016-19, including reducing and preventing homelessness in the borough, ensuring homeless households can access appropriate support services – and ensuring homeless households can access suitable temporary and permanent accommodation.
