The government’s emergency Budget includes an additional £3.2 million to support the victims of domestic violence and abuse, which will boost the provision of services – including more funding for refuges for victims of domestic abuse.
Online publisher 24Dash reports that the fund will be open to proposals from local partnerships, which demonstrate how the needs of victims could be met in innovative ways through collaboration.
The funding will also address any “gaps” in the delivery of services in the short term.
The government has also announced a review of the services currently available to victims of domestic abuse.
Findings of the review will contribute to the government’s Spending Review –
an updated strategy to ensure that victims of domestic violence and their families have access to the support and services they need.
There will also be a further £131,000 for additional workers for UK Refuges Online – a database of services for victims of domestic violence.
Communities minister Baroness Williams said:
“Alongside the vital role of refuges that provide a safe haven for people when they need it, we will also be looking at further innovative approaches to prevention, early intervention and support for victims.”
