A former detective who worked for Scotland Yard’s paedophile unit has been issued with a harassment order after he threatened his former girlfriend.
Neil Thompson, 50, is alleged to have sent his ex-girlfriend Hayley Elgood – a mother-of-three – abusive text messages, including one message which read, “You’re dead.”
The Sun newspaper reports that Ms Elgood was so terrified she was unable to leave the house for fear of reprisals from Mr Thompson.
A hearing of the Family Court at Bow Magistrates’ Court heard that Thompson worked as one of the principal investigators for the Metropolitan Police’s international paedophile investigation Operation Ore.
Operation Ore involved investigating paedophiles across the world who downloaded child pornography from a US website.
Thompson retired from policing in 2010, however.
The court banned the former police officer from contacting or going anywhere near his former girlfriend under the terms of the harassment order.
After the hearing, Thompson said, “It was a bog standard domestic thing.”
