Duncan Lewis is delighted to announce that our family and childcare director Krina Parmar has been appointed by the Judicial Office as a magistrate, sitting In the Family Court assigned to the Cambridgeshire local justice area.
It follows the exciting announcement that she has also been invited to be a judge at the Family Law Awards 2023.
Of her new role as a Justice of the Peace, Krina says, “after nearly a year long application process, I am extremely excited for this new role and opportunity. I am looking forward to learning more about the role that magistrates have within the local community and about their decision making process.
“As a solicitor myself I am interested in reviewing matters from a court perspective and how they come to their decisions, in turn I think that this will assist me greatly in my day to day role as a solicitor and supervisor of future solicitors. This role will also allow me to give back to the community which is something very personal to me”.
A recommended lawyer in the prestigious Legal 500 2023 guide, Krina specialises in public and private law children matters with significant expertise in the following: International child abduction matters; Forced marriage applications; Female genital mutilation (FGM) applications; Emergency matters such as removal of children and domestic abuse.
Many of her cases are culturally complex cases with international elements. She represents parents, family members and children as parties to applications for child arrangement orders, special guardianship orders, child abduction matters, adoption proceedings and care proceedings to include serious non-accidental injuries where a baby has died. She regularly attends pro bono surgeries for Women’s Aid, local contact centres and have a strong relationship with victim support and the police. She has represented the police as a party to a forced marriage application. She regularly trains professionals in supporting victims of domestic abuse, forced marriages, and FGM.
Speaking on being invited to judge the Family Law Awards 2023, she said: “I am extremely grateful and excited to be invited to the judging panel for these prestige awards in the area of family law.
“Having been shortlisted for the award of Partner of the Year for three consecutive years, I am looking forward to ascertaining how the judges come to their difficult decisions and learning more about the decision making process overall.”
