Sophia Hussain

I am a Consultant Solicitor in the Family and Child Care department at Duncan Lewis. I am based in the Leeds office and I represent clients throughout the North of England.

I undertake work in all areas of Family Law and Child Care matters. I have a wealth of experience representing both Applicants and Respondents in complex private law children matters, domestic abuse cases and divorce proceedings. I have a wealth of experience securing injunctions on the same day for vulnerable clients that need urgent protection .

I also have significant experience representing parents in care proceedings issued by the Local Authority. I am regularly instructed by parents facing allegations of sexual abuse, neglect, failure to protect from harm and parents accused of inflicting non-accidental injuries on their children. In addition, I have assisted clients in deprivation of liberty proceedings, wardship proceedings and am regularly instructed to represent parents in leave to oppose adoption proceedings.

I represent clients from various backgrounds, including the most vulnerable, and those with difficulties ranging from drug and alcohol addiction to complex health needs. I have represented parents whereby criminal proceedings are running alongside the child care proceedings and taken instructions from parents in prison ensuring their voice is heard. My expertise also includes representing parents with cognitive difficulties and those that lack litigation capacity. In such matters, I represent clients through their Official Solicitor.

I am listed as a Recommended Lawyer in the UK directory for my excellent client care and passion for going above and beyond to achieve the best possible outcome for my clients. I am also a member of the Law Society’s Family Law Advanced Panel which means I have demonstrated the required level of competence and specialist knowledge, as defined by the Law Society in Family Law.

I have previous experience in Personal Injury, Commercial Property and Immigration work.

I am fluent in Urdu and Punjabi.
