Cases involved Secure Accommodation Orders and Deprivation of Liberty Orders often involve concerns that a child is at risk of absconding, child sexual exploitation, criminal exploitation, substance use and mental health difficulties. I have experience of representing and supporting my clients to access the appropriate support to address these issues.
Given the nationwide shortage of secure accommodation, there has been an inevitable shift towards applications under the Inherent Jurisdiction of the High Court for Deprivation of Liberty Orders. The area of Deprivation of Liberty Orders is relatively new but the number of applications is rising fast, resulting in the need for a specialist Court within the High Court. I have expertise to represent parents and children in applications to the High Court for such orders. I also have the experience to represent children in applications where their liberty is being infringed upon by the use of Secure Accommodation Orders. This is a niche and complicated area of law in which I have advocated for my client with regard to the lawfulness of such orders.
